The short story in Literature is a few pages of beginning, middle and end peopled by characters who quickly draw themselves into its arc from the minds of their authors. How these authors, including Herman Melville, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, M R James and Violet Hunt imagine their characters journeys is, of course, illuminating, thought-provoking and classic literature.
