Deon Sanders is not a football player. In fact, he's not even an athlete. He is a poet. A very good poet. The only problem is Deon doesn't live in the type of neighborhood nor does he attend the type of school where poetry is cool. Deon lives in one of the worst neighborhoods in the city, often passing by gangs and drugs, before making it to his front door. Deon doesn't have much, but there are three things he lives for. His mom, his best friends, and his journal. He also has his English Teacher, that notices his writing potential and enters Deon into a competition that could lead to a college scholarship. After a tragedy one night, everything changes in Deon's life, leaving him to make a choice that could change his life forever.
