"Daddy, I keep having these worries..."
Worry Thoughts was written with two little kids in mind who had a lot of big worries. It became a go-to item in their anxiety toolbox, especially at bedtime.
Worry Thoughts started out as a rhyming poem that I wrote for my daughters when they were quite young. It is now an engaging storybook with full-page illustrations that brings the poem to life.
Whether it was reading the poem to them when they were very young, or them reading it to themselves as they got older, the poem helped them reset. Was it the cure-all for all their worries and anxious thoughts, no, not at all, it just became one of many ways that helped them change the relationship they had with their worry thoughts. And that's what it's all about!
It teaches another coping skill that can help the child feel in control when they have worries.
It makes for a wonderful storytime book for the parent or teacher or therapist to talk about worries and other ways to help manage anxious thoughts.
Also included in the book is a comic strip rendition of the poem as well as the original poem with the hope that the book can always be a go-to for the child as they grow up.
I'm also providing two free coloring pages as an activity to complement the book. They are of the same page, just one has the symbolic worry thoughts and the other one does not. I thought it would be a wonderful idea to allow the reader or listener to write in their own worries with the messaging that the page provides. You can download these pages @ WorryThoughts.com (under Resources).
