Corporate boards remain a male-dominated territory. The lack of women in the boardroom remains a perpetual problem. Efforts by companies to build a robust pipeline of female leaders have remained unfruitful and disappointing. Time and resources are invested to accelerate women but the paucity of women at the top remains appalling. This is because very little is understood about the unseen dynamics that shape the upward mobility of women. These unseen barriers are more detrimental because they are overt and therefore difficult to uproot, confront and correct. Poor understanding of these dynamics leads to inappropriate and ineffective interventions by companies. They design program that only address issues on a surface level while the deep seated barriers are left unresolved. Companies also tend to "empower women" to clone and fit the masculinized prototype of a leader. This backfires as perpetual marginalization of females as leaders. This book reveals a multitude of approaches to address the invisible barriers faced by women and the consequential ceilings they face in their upward mobility. It uncovers valuable insights from experienced female directors in male dominated industries
