Beskrivelse
WOKE!--a mere fictional whisper away from real anti-Woke crusades in the state of Florida--opens on Linda and Steve Graham, two "graduates" of Conversion Therapy for gay and lesbian teenagers who were coerced into marriage, squabbling on a super-hot 2028 May morning in Heaven's Ridge. Linda is a member of Parents for Freedom which works to remove all books from school libraries that reference critical race theory, transgender choices, and sexual content.
Two murders soon occur at the Herald Hotel in Wichita, Kansas, where a conference of English Professors of LGBTQIA+ Literature and a national rally against Social Emotional Learning are taking place simultaneously. Frank Steller, English Professor specializing in Queer Literature at Florida State University, is attending one. Nancy Stern, head of both the Heaven's Ridge chapter and the national organization of Parents for Freedom, and Linda Graham, are together at the other.
Whodunit? Why?
A search for the killers involves a cast of shady characters including a professed Director of Creation Museums, corrupt and crooked politicians and cops, sex perverts, Evangelical operators, gun-toting fascists, book ban advocates, gay rights activists, and more. This satire unfolds in startling and at times horrifying ways. Laugh-out-loud scenes and shocking violence collide.
The mystery is finally solved in a wildly dramatic and unexpected finale.
