Beskrivelse
The novel, "With all Displeasure" is a thrilling debut by Chukwuka Samuel Mogekwu a creative writer and music artist with several singles to his credit, based in Victoria British Columbia Canada. The writer lives and works in Victoria and is married with his wife and son.
With all Displeasure is a faith-based novel that swings between two eras: one era is set in the early 1900s of Colonial Eastern Nigeria while the other is set on a South-Eastern Nigerian campus in the early 2010s. Udezue has the spotlight on him on the early 1900s timeline, as he struggles between facing banishment for accepting his newly found Christian faith or renouncing it and continuing with the old ways to avoid shame and excommunication. On the other hand, his descendant Ebuka, several decades later, faces a similar dilemma though not as obvious. Ebuka travels in from the city of Abuja to his hometown Umuogu, on the same land from which his great-grand father was banished to study at the University there.
Saddled with the responsibility of holding on to his faith in Christ while staying focused on his academics, Ebuka faces numerous distractions and challenges, the major one being cult group activities led mainly by the villain of the novel, Spiff. Furthermore, Ebuka gets entangled on the wrong side of things as he finds love and attraction with Adaora, who is also involved with the notorious mastermind, Spiff. With the right company of like-minded faith-based students, Ebuka finds comfort, community, and strength to overcome obstacles and cultivate a new culture, not just for himself but for future generations that will walk on that same path.
The novel is very descriptive with a little bit of comedy, feel good emotions yet full of thrilling moments. The book is full of inspiration as it highlights that good is far more resilient than evil, and that light will always overcome darkness provided light is made to shine.
