This work updates and expands upon Bartlett's William Congreve: A Reference Guide (1979). It contains substantial new scholarship on the playwright, influenced by new literary perspectives including New Historicism, Feminism, Marxism, and Deconstructionism. Entries are arranged according to year of publication and briefly describe the thesis of each book. With subject index.
