When Cassandra walks in on her fianc cheating with a colleague in his law firm, her perfect life comes screeching to a halt. Why has she stayed with him for so long? Who is she and what does she want out of life? In an uncharacteristic act of defiance she moves from Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts back to her home on the prairies of Robinson, Kansas. She returns to find her childhood crush, Will Thompson, is as appealing as ever but he's married and flirting with her. After her recent betrayal she shuts him out completely in spite of him always popping up and catching her when she exhibits the clumsiness which earned her the nickname Crashandra as a child. Will has always held a flame for Cassie but she's his best friend's sister and therefore untouchable. When she steps out of the rental truck she takes his breath away. He soon finds he can't figure out this new Cassie, who seems like the girl he once knew one moment and then turns into a cold, scarred, and distant woman the next.
