Waiting Room Frenzy

Waiting Room Frenzy is a whimsical tale of four hours of implausible human behavior in a Surgical Waiting Room as told by two long time participants, siblings Rebecca and Tobias. Their observations chronicle dozens of vignettes of farcical activity as families amuse themselves passing time, while their loved ones are under the knife.Two concierge play lead roles in attempting to maintain civility and discipline, abet with minimal success. The room is opened by Pauline McDougal (Polly) a grandmotherly type with a sense of humor, who struggles with guests. As the number of waiting room people swells, Donna Mae comes on duty to assist with childcare, law and order, and guest relations. Donna Mae, an ex-Marine Corps drill instructor, runs "her waiting room" with a measure of military discipline, yet she doesn't always succeed.Four secondary characters, and fifteen additional minor characters, fill the four hours with antics fit for a Shakespearian Comedy. Ants-in-Her Pants roams the room as her name suggests, in an anxious emotional state, boosting her level of anxiety with every object she confronts. The Jokester increases his group's and the room's levity, while his granddaughter Chuckles lends assistance and laughs with an angelic heart at every opportunity. Buster age four, whose let free to roam by his cell phone absorbed parents, wreaks havoc on every object he touches. Ludicrous characters ramble the room performing their parts in the farcical performance. Minor characters joke among themselves, attempt to feast on fast food breakfast biscuits, allow their children to roughhouse, sleep through spouse's surgery, invite Uber drivers to wait for them, redefine the meaning of service animal, use drive-through drop-off surgery, and engage in hosts of other socially unaccepted activities. The story ends on an up-note, as The Jokester departs sending personal thanks to Polly and Donna-Mae. Two minutes later the identities of Rebecca and Tobias are revealed as workmen make repairs to the room.
