English summary: After stays in various European countries, the northern-Bohemian born painter Rudo Schwarz, born in 1906, finally established himself in 1937 in Laudenbach-on-the-Bergstrasse in northern Baden-Wurttemberg as a freelance painter. He began a family but was drafted into military service in 1940 at 34 years of age. Soldiering was hardly his passion, to the extent that he always attempted, with every short break that his service allowed him, to fill his time with drawing, painting and writing. For that reason, what emerged from his stages of "War and Imprisonment" is a considerable work, which now, step by step, has found its way into public view. In this work he described the travels of his battalion from Mainz through Yugoslavia and Greece to Crete. This journey began on November 22nd, 1942 in Mainz and ended with his arrival in Crete on January 30th, 1943. With various, war-related disruptions of the trip, Rudo Schwarz often reached for his sketching pencil and his camera. It was his objective, therefore, to record the land and people and the beauties of nature. Military things were not represented in his notes.
