This is part 3
If you are like me, chances are good you know that being able to work with more than one programming language to accomplish a similar task can capture the attention of recruiters, show how diversified you are and, possibly, add some extra bucks in your pocket.
Might be enough to become your hedge fund for Starbucks coffee increases, who knows.
The point is becoming programming language multi-lingual can be a big plus but not if it takes you away from what you are already doing that is making you money or has such a steep learning curve that the investment of time and effort verses the ROI makes learning it a moot point.
What if you didn’t have to know the language?
Instead, you can use the language the same way you are using C#.Net or Visual Basic to work with databases and data and then create similar reporting visuals to show off the information.
Well, that is exactly what this book and many others to follow is designed to do. Provide you with a Visual Studio interface that lets you create a standard way to create a program that helps you select a database, connect to it, discover what table or view you want to use – even create a custom query – and then create a script from a scripting language – in this case Rexx – that starts from creating the connection to the database to producing the visual output in HTML.
If this isn’t what you’re looking for then this e-book isn’t what you’re looking for then I wish you the best in your programming career.
But if it is, then continue reading. I feel very confident that what I’m going to help you with will produce quality Rexx scripts that get the job done.
