Beskrivelse

Victor Bourgeois (1897-1962) was the leading pioneer of the international modernist movement in Belgium, and a key player on the European scene. He was invited in 1927 to design a house for the famous Weissenhof Estate in Stuttgart, an experimental housing estate built to showcase International Style modernism; and between 1928 and 1930 he played an important role in the International Congresses of Modern Architecture (CIAM), the most influential platform for modern architecture and urban design of the 20th century.

Despite the refinement of his designs and acuteness of his theoretical insights, Bourgeois has been unjustly forgotten as an architect and urban designer. This book, the first study of Bourgeois' built and textual oeuvre, begins to remedy that, with a survey of the architect's work and intellectual development. Comprehensively researched, this monograph contributes an important chapter to the history of 20th-century architecture.
