In 1912, Pope Pius X promulgated the encyclical "Singulari quadam" about the German "Gewerkschaftsstreit" (trade union controversy). This volume reconstructs for the first time the drafting process of this important document on the basis of the sources in the Apostolic Vatican Archive. It reproduces the complete texts of the German bishops' reports which influenced the contents of the encyclical.
