The development of micro-implants applied to orthodontics was one of the important advances in therapy at the end of the 20th century. In the middle of the last century, Dr. Per-Ingvar Branemark introduced the concept of "osseointegration" based on the observation that titanium adhered firmly to the bone.Since that time, many researchers and clinicians have tried to develop appliances that allow the concept of absolute anchorage to be incorporated into orthodontic treatment. Kanomi, who in 1997 was the first to publish a system of micro-implants used specifically in orthodontics, stands out.The use of micro-implants has made it possible to solve in a simpler way, some clinical cases that otherwise required more treatment time and greater complexity. On the other hand, they have made it possible to treat patients with insufficient collaboration in the use of extraoral appliances or elastics.
