Beskrivelse
INTRODUCTION:
This tour book covers Puerto Rico's Culebra and Vieques Islands, as well as the US Virgin Islands in the Caribbean. It is the companion manual to the 'Puerto Rico Island Attractions' tour book. Both describe the hundreds of attractions that await you and yours as you explore the culture, history, and beauty of these US territories.
HISTORY:
The islands have a long history of occupation, first by native tribes, then by Christopher Columbus and Ponce de Leon, followed by the Danish, English, Italians, French, Africans, and the Americans; and each group left a piece of themselves in the form of architecture, weapons, language, and culture. Your visit will probably be for a day or two if you are on a cruise, a week or so if flying in, but you really need weeks to months, or perhaps years, to see it all. Yes, that is how diverse the islands are, and how much there is to do.
DO YOUR RESEARCH:
This tour book took months of research via the Internet to compile and thus, it should become your 'Wish List' and 'Check-off' guide as you hop from island to island and explore the attributes of each. You can do your own research if you have the hours, days, and weeks available, or you can just purchase this book that has done this for you.
LANGUAGE:
There is a page of the more common words you should know when you visit the islands.
ISLANDS & ASSUMPTIONS:
Many touring guidebooks cover one or two of the ten or more islands that are in this guide. Each has its popular attractions, beaches, hiking trails, and history to explore. The author provides you with a listing of these for your selection, and he does NOT assume to know your likes or dislikes, and therefore has NOT included a day-by-day itinerary as done by some other authors.
INDEX:
The author includes a comprehensive multi-page index that may help you in our trip planning.
TRIP PLANNING:
The author includes not just the names and addresses of the places you may wish to visit, but also the days of operation, and the amount of time to budget at each location, which is something many tour guidebooks do NOT include. Example: Galería Don Tiburcio Gonzalez. Closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Plan on one-hour (for the visit)
DESCRIPTIONS:
The descriptions not only include a short review of the attraction or facility, but where applicable warnings about each. Example: Faro de Culebrita. This lighthouse is a 30 to 40 minute hike up a hill through brush along a poorly marked trail. Plan on two to three hours...
The descriptions include some of the history where applicable. Example: Museo El Polvorín. The building was built in 1905 by the U.S. Navy and used as a munitions warehouse.
HISTORIC DISTRICTS:
There is a chapter on the historic districts for those that want to know more about the history of the islands.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
This section of the guidebook contains valuable information on money and money exchange; Hotel and sales taxes to expect to pay; Driving yourself or obtaining transportation, Weather situations; and Visa and Passport requirements; and a few of the celebrations to attend.
PHONE & INTERNET ADDRESSES & GPS:
Phone numbers, website addresses are NOT included as these frequently change and would require a daily review of the guidebook's information, which is out of the realm of the author. GPS is included as it rarely changes.
In short, this is a very comprehensive guidebook that should be considered. Enjoy
