Beskrivelse
Earlier on Thursday, at around 1:38 p.m. local time, a one-way unmanned aerial vehicle struck a maintenance facility on a Coalition base close to Hasakah in northeast Syria, killing a U.S. contractor and injuring five U.S. service members and one more U.S. contractor.
According to the intelligence community, the UAV is Iranian in origin.
President Biden directed Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III to provide the go-ahead for US Central Command personnel to launch targeted airstrikes in eastern Syria against facilities utilized by organizations linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Gregory D. Richardson's book "US Airstrikes in Syria: The Retaliatory Assault Against Iranian IRGC and Affiliates" has further information on the subject.
