Unix Storage Management is a comprehensive guide to storage architectures and management and offers an array of crucial information to storage administrators interested in making the most of their corporate Unix system. Ray A. Kampa and Lydia V. Bell expound upon a wide range of topics, including general storage principles, storage project management, storage architectures, storage management software, network-connected storage solutions, backup/restoration strategies, performance analysis/management, and more. Doubling as a reference for the storage manager of today's rapidly changing storage marketplace, Unix Storage Management offers listings of key acronyms and vendor and organization Web sites, in addition to a wealth of technical details and a primer on TCP/IP networks. Throughout, Kampa and Bell pepper their discussion with a historical perspective of the data storage industry. This book is an invaluable tool for both seasoned and novice storage managers who want to analyze present storage installations and plan for future upgrades. Ray A. Kampa is a Unix systems consultant with over 22 years of experience. Ray has worked in massive storage environments such as those for legacy MCI, the current WorldCom, and FedEx. Ray worked for StorageTek in the mid-1980s and will never forget witnessing the trial run of the robotics that would one day become the basis for the StorageTek automated tape silo. Lydia V.
