Beskrivelse
Diabetes insipidus (DI) is a rare condition characterized by an imbalance of fluids in the body, leading to excessive thirst and frequent urination. Unlike diabetes mellitus, which involves issues with insulin and blood sugar levels, diabetes insipidus primarily stems from problems with the hormone vasopressin, also known as antidiuretic hormone (ADH). This hormone plays a crucial role in regulating the body's water balance by signaling the kidneys to reabsorb water. When there is insufficient production of vasopressin or the body becomes resistant to its effects, it results in the inability to concentrate urine, thereby causing the symptoms associated with DI.
