Beskrivelse
Victorian gentlemen Edward Backhouse and John W Mounsey provide a picture of Hexham and the Dukes House estate overlooking the town from the south decades before the more celebrated local photographer, J P Gibson was at work. Their photos portray mid-Victorian Hexham and Backhouse’s amusing sketches show the intrepid Victorian traveller around the time that Thomas Cook was starting package holidays abroad.
