As Captain Steve Brock is about to board the aircraft scheduled to take him safely home from his long deployment in Iraq, he spots a suicide bomber racing toward his plane. Steve intercepts and tackles the terrorist before he can reach the plane. The bomb explodes on impact. He committed himself to the ultimate sacrifice, saving the lives of all aboard. After his untimely death, his widow Anna, and their two children, Marc and Lara, soon find themselves in dire circumstances. Anna's struggle to make ends meet evolves into drowning in debt. One misfortune after another plagues Anna and her children. Suddenly finding herself unemployed, living in a run down and seemingly dangerous motel, and having unreliable transportation are just the beginning of Anna's woes. The kindness of local restaurant owner Gino Giovanni, also a single parent with two children of his own, offers Anna and her children a glimpse of hope. Despite the fact that Anna and Gino still struggle with grief from losing their spouses, they find themselves falling in love. Their joy is shattered after Gino's delinquent son Tony tries to assault Anna. She defends herself. Convinced that she has killed the son of the man that she is falling in love with, Anna and her children find themselves on the run.The family is once more plunged into the dark world of the homeless. Living in a dilapidated van is miserable, and sometimes even terrifying. Her worst nightmare is realized after she reads Tony's obituary in the paper. She is unaware that she is innocent and that he was actually shot by the police in self-defense. Her terror intensifies when she discovers her face plastered on "wanted posters" that offers a $1000 reward for information leading to her whereabouts. She is also unaware that the posters were printed and distributed by her dear friend Brenda Simmons, the daughter of her ex employer. Brenda desperately wants to share some very exciting news that will impact Anna and her children's lives forever. After being "evicted" from a relatively safe, well-lit truck stop parking lot, the Logan family find themselves living in their van parked in an above ground parking deck at a local hospital. When their "home" is towed away by hospital security, Anna feels as if she has lost all hope. By chance, Brenda runs into Anna at the hospital. Anna discovers that she did not kill Tony after all, and that a bright future with Gino is still possible. Though she feels as if the weight of the world has been lifted off of her shoulders, Anna will soon learn that every aspect of her life is about to take a turn for the better.
