Sir Thomas Clark, an English knight, a close and trusted friend to King Henry VII and reputedly, 'the most honest man in England', has been commanded to provide the King with, 'a truthful and accurate account of the killing' of the two Princes in the Tower by their uncle, King Richard III. He embarks on the task reluctantly but becomes determined to find the truth. His investigation results in him discovering a large number of people from royalty to commoners who may know the truth, but who give him highly conflicting and often worrying accounts of what happened. As he delves deeper into the mystery, he begins to discover secrets that many would prefer remain hidden and which result in mortal threats to his own life and those closest to him. He begins to question his assumptions and knowledge about what actually happened to the Princes in the Tower and reaches surprising conclusions as to who exactly was guilty of the act of treachery.
