Beskrivelse
Fleeing Southerners, freed slaves, Mexicans, Indians, outlaws, immigrant settlers, and descendants of pirates are some of the people woven into the colorful tapestry that was Texas following the U S Civil War. Jeremiah, a Georgia boy, is running for his life after losing his parents. Kathleen, a Texas ranch wife, is waiting - her husband fails to return from a day trip to town. James, a Union officer, is traveling west to rebuild his life. Seeking a home, answers, and a sense of self, they interact with some strong, independent characters; a Mexican girl and her grandfather, a beautiful Spanish-English ship captain, a blue-eyed Comanche, and a wealthy plantation owner and his troubled son. Some are running, some abandoned, some waiting, and some searching as the war ends and a nation struggles to heal. Overcoming a challenging landscape, physical and financial hardships, and personal struggles during a time of Martial Law and Visa passes, they come together in surprising ways as a mystery is solved and some find romance along the Trails of Promise.
