Philinda Merrick had to quickly bury her husband, Levi Merrick and son Charlie, in a dry well after the Hauns' Mill Massacre in Missouri and escape to Nauvoo, Illinois. She and her daughter, Fanny, were destitute and Prophet Joseph Smith and his wife, Emma, took them in. One day, Emma came to her and said, "Women were just as important as men in the Priesthood of God. Get ready, you will be one of the first women to receive the priesthood." After being excommunicated for stating this in church, I found the minutes of Eliza R. Snow, and Emma Smith where not only my two female ancestors were given the priesthood, but 1,100 other women also were given this special gift! I firmly believe that women are special to Jesus and God and they are not respecter of persons. Women, claim your rightful priesthood in Jesus and God!
