TMJ Disorders and Management

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) acts like a sliding hinge, connecting jawbone to the skull. TMJ disorders can cause pain in the jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement.The exact cause of TMD is often difficult to determine.Although TMD is similar to musculoskeletal disorders in other part of body, and similar therapeutic approaches can generally be used.Hence,it is important for dentists to rule out disorders that mimic TMD, to identify non-TMD disorders that may negatively impact the patients's TMD symptoms and to offer the patient therapies that will provide a long term symptom relief. Therefore,this book highlights the various TMJ disorders and their management in dental practice.
