Experience life in Ancient Egypt as Amos and the Time Tinkers travel on the Nile with the Scorpion King, Narmer. It is the year 3,000 B.C. just at the time when King Narmer is forging the two lands into the first nation in history. Amos is in Egypt on a mission to see that a trade for amber is completed and to craft a golden disk in Abydos before he can return to Septeluma, the meta-world created for the Time Tinkers. Amos travels caravan trails and sails the length of the Nile with his closest friends: Billy, Janna, and Lulu, along with Buck and Sophie, two of his teachers. The people of Ha-ka-ptah, the ancient name for Egypt, believe that Amos, Billy, Janna, and Lulu are gods come from the Underworld to bring peace during a time when instability threatens the way of life in the two lands. King Narmer seizes the opportunity to identify himself with the gods. He devises a drama to be presented in the temples for the people. The Time Tinkers sail the Nile with the Scorpion King to bring the message that King Narmer has the blessings of the gods in his efforts to unify Upper and Lower Ha-ka-ptah into one land. And all the while, Amos must find a way to complete his dual quest. The problem is that amber from the west, "Tears of the Trees" is more precious than gold in Ha-ka-ptah and Amos, although he plays the part of a god, is really a donkeyherd in the King's service. He has neither the position nor the means to procure a piece of amber. A second challenge confronting him is how to make the golden disk he must make with his own hands before he can return to Septeluma. Fulfilling the quests seemed easy when Titus, Choragus of the mysterious Luman on Septeluma, gave Amos his tasks. Now that Amos is in Ancient Egypt, the tasks seem insurmountable.
