The Wisdom Book of Solomon

Some statements from the Book of Wisdom: "Wisdom is a spirit that is a friend of men and does not leave unpunished those who blaspheme with their lips" (Wis 1:6); "The life of the righteous is in the hands of God and no torment touches it" (Wis 3:1); "Wisdom is easily shown to those who love it and is found by those who seek it" (Wis 6:12). (Wis 3:1); "Wisdom is easily shown to those who love it and is found by those who seek it" (Wis 6:12); "You love all that exists and hate nothing that you have made. But you save all things, for all things are yours, Lord, friend of life" (Wis 11:24, 26).This book was written in Greek at the end of the first century B.C., in the Jewish colony of Alexandria. The title of the book indicates that the main theme is "wisdom". Indeed, in the first part, the author emphasizes the importance of Wisdom as the path to righteousness and life (cf. Wisdom 1:1-6:21). In the central part of the book, there is a description of Wisdom's origin and nature (cf. Wisdom 6:22-9:18); in the last part, the author recalls Wisdom's action in history (cf. Wisdom 10-19).
