President Sotomayor's peaceful death in 2056 sparks an election between two polar-opposite candidates. One, from the Lytoky--an all-female society east of the Mississippi, and the other from New Canaan--the Lytoky's ultra-conservative patriarchal neighbor. With Waverly Nelson's mind-control technology having successfully bent both sides into loathing the other, the country is poised for what Waverly believes to be the ultimate Civil War. In her final programming, she sets loose a known-rapist in order to fully enrage her women into battle.

Only, when Waverly's presumed long-lost daughter sets off on a clandestine rendezvous to meet a boy from the "other" side, it sets off a chain of events no one could have predicted and now not even Waverly can control.

Will Waverly's offspring be sacrificed? Or will some reluctant heroes be strong enough to overcome the waves of cognitive dissonance?
