Islamic fundamentalism has become synonymous with global terrorism in the 21st century. One of the most prestigious scholars of Asia, Niyaz Fatehpuri, saw it coming and warned the world more than 75 years ago even at the risk of threats to his life. This book examines the writing of Niyaz Fatehpuri that suggest many ways to contain religious fundamentalism; these solutions are just as relevant today as they were almost a century ago. Niyaz Fatehpuri was born in India in 1884 and died in Pakistan in 1966. He was a recipient of the highest civil award in India for his contributions to Urdu literature and his magazine Nigar continues publishing since 1922. His writings are widely acclaimed worldwide and this book constitutes a Masters thesis at McGill University.
