Beskrivelse
This book explores the changing character of Harwich, Dovercourt and Parkeston over the course of the 19th century, including the borough's economic, social and political history. Its coastal location dictated its prominent role as a port and naval base from the 14th century onwards, and it retained its military function in the Napoleonic and Crimean wars. It was not all plain sailing, however, for the port town's fortunes in the 19th century, and this volume provides a rich overview of the parish's story.
