Basil is actually a type of mint. Doesn't quite taste the same ... right? Well, it does the same job by drawing out certain flavors from the food. It is also easy to grow. You can either grow it in a nursery or in the garden. Simply walk to the plant each time you want to use it and clip a piece of the plant for the kitchen. Basil grows best in warm climates, so cover those plants during winter or you might lose them. You also need to keep clipping basil so it doesn't flower. If it flowers, it makes the plant taste bitter. Basil apparently fights the effect of ageing. Well, I suppose that could be true. But Basil acts as an anti-inflammatory and as an antibacterial.
