Jason Wilson has the same problems as every teenager. To him, the scariest things in life aren't found in the celluloid of the latest horror movies or in the pages of the most nightmarish novels, but in vying for the affection of the girl next door and avoiding the wrath of the local bully. However, when he's stalked and attacked by a werewolf, Jason is forced to rethink everything he thought he knew about the difference between fact and fiction. Afraid not only of his new physically monstrous form but also the terrifying acts he's now capable of, help comes to Jason in the form of Kate Joans, a detective working for the mythical Underground organization. Thought to be nothing other than a mere legend, the secretive supernatural agency formed in the 19th century by horror icons Bram Stoker, Mary Shelley, Robert Louis Stevenson and Washington Irving has been fighting the forces of evil in the shadows for hundreds of years. In a bid to find out more about this weird and wonderful world that's been forced upon him, Jason and Kate (with a little bit of help from none other than the infamous Dorian Gray) quickly find themselves embroiled in a race against time to destroy an ancient artifact that could spell doom for the entire human race. Inspired by classic gothic horror, the first part of the The Underground Casefiles series, Thirty Pieces of Silver sets up a terrifying and fantastical supernatural world full of paranormal intrigue, daring historical revelations and the best crime-fighting team-up of modern times. Although finding out that the monsters under your bed really do exist would ruin the life of any other teenager, for Jason Wilson it only gave him the ability to be the hero he never thought he could be.
