Beskrivelse
The Civil War of the seventeenth century stands out as a momentous episode in English history. It is a story that has many interpretations. There was relative peace and economic prosperity until Chatles I dissolved Parliament. The Public were incensed, opposing both the introduction of taxes without the authority of Parliament and ecclesiastic reforms. The social and political upheaval that followed turned lives upside down and left many, like Anthony Sedley, confused about what they were fighting for when faced by the horrors of war.
