Beskrivelse
THE THIRTEENTH CHIME THE THIRTEENTH CHIME is a collection of poems. They were composed over a period in excess of forty years. Many of them appeared in various periodicals and anthologies. They are written in a variety of forms and with a variety of themes. Subject matter is sometimes personal and sometimes public. The author never dates his work as some of the poems took decades to finish. So the reader will have to decide which poems began in youth and which belong to an older sensibility. Although the subjects of these poems range widely from love to war and all points between what they share is poetry's ability to create memorable shortcuts to significant meaning. Concentrated power produced by skilful concision is the unique quality of poetry unshared by other literary forms. As a composite of two crafts, poetry gains over art and music in its combination of both: poetry uses image and sound in equal measure. The author is an award-winning poet who lives in Essex, half-way between London and Southend thus halfway between the city and the sea. A railway runs through his town and joins the two. The author hopes the reader will share the journeys these poems make. Collections of poetry by Anthony Knight are published under the following titles: THE THIRTEENTH CHIME (print book); THE DEBRIS FIELD (print and e-book); BEYOND THE TERMINUS (e-book).
