Asgali Nvya, the three hundred foot high Head Rock, is older than time itself in the river gorge in the mountains. Young Josh Allen loves the old Rock, because it always reflects his moods. But he loves Ellen Miller, his wonderful little school mate with the crossed eyes, even more. She grows into a beautiful woman, and she and Josh keep running in and out of each others lives for four decades, sharing happiness and tragedy, while getting caught up in the Great Northern Migration.
