This edition of the of "The Son of the Red Corsair" is the only English translation of the Italian "Il figlio del corsaro rosso" by Emilio Salgari, an Italian writer of adventure and science fiction stories for readers of all ages young at heart. His books are regarded as classics and are still in print many years after their initial publication. They have been translated in several languages and, besides Italy, they are especially popular in the Spanish speaking world. A prolific writer, Salgari authored 80 novels and about 150 short stories. A captivating mix of adventure, romance and comedy, The Son of The Red Corsair is the story of Enrico of Ventimiglia, an Italian gentleman disguised as a corsair, as he fights his way through the Spaniards conquerors of Central America in search of the half-sister he has never met, the child of his father's second wife, the daughter of Darien's Gran Cacique. In his adventures he is attended by a handful of colorful characters like the faithful Mendoza, Buttafuoco, a French gentleman turned buccaneer, and the boisterous Don Barrejo.
