The Sheriff's Lonely Thanksgiving Vigil

At this point in his life, the Sheriff could be the loneliest County Sheriff in the United States. Now as the days were marked off of the office calendar by a deputy, the sheriff contemplated his situation of a lonely Thanksgiving vigil. The sheriff always had much to occupy his thoughts, and worked many long hours in dangerous conditions, but Holidays were hard for him. He had lost so much, things had changed, but Thanksgiving was approaching, like it or not.
