Beskrivelse
In the late summer of 1993, John McConley, a Scottish millionaire and successful entrepreneur, actually just wants to spend a few quiet days in his little cottage on a lake in Ireland. But suddenly Eve Faulkner is standing in front of him, the woman whose uncle was responsible for the death of his parents and whom he has not seen for almost a quarter of a century. Before they can get closer, they are attacked by strangers and Eve dies in John's arms. Shocked by the death of his first love, McConley starts his own investigation and gets caught in the middle of the war between the IRA and their protesters. Again and again, the clues lead to his own past. What role did his parents play in the Northern Ireland conflict? And there is also Geoffrey Holmes, the helpful taxi driver, who seems to be pursuing his own agenda and who never leaves John's side. In his search for the truth, McConley finds his life in ever greater danger and realises that the question of who is friend and who is foe is anything but easy to answer.
Meanwhile, Police Constable Patricia Duncan tries to save her friend and partner David Faulkner from being caught between the fronts of Protestant and Catholic terrorists.
