1. This volume is a compendium of essays that addresses the issue of India transitioning from coal to cleaner more sustainable energy use patterns, Written in non-technical language by researchers, policy makers and practitioners, it draws on different disciplines, ranging from science and technology to economics and sociology to address this interdisciplinary issue of carbon transition. 2. The four broad themes, namely, 'Alternate Pathways, a Macroeconomic Approach and Just Transitions'; 'Governance and Policy Perspectives'; 'Industry: Opportunities and Challenges'; and 'Investors and Shareholders', explores the issue from all perspectives to better understand the situation. 3. It will be of interest to departments of Climate Change, Environmental Studies, Sustainable Development, Energy policy and economics, and Public Policy across the UK and US.
