A chronological narrative of a crucial period of the American Civil War, from late May to 1 July of 1863. Although General Grant lays siege to Vicksburg, the Confederacy's key position on the Mississippi River, General Lee decides not to send reinforcements to Mississippi, but to invade Pennsylvania instead -- a decision that puts him on the road to Gettysburg.
