The Enderly family is set on edge when a mysterious woman sweeps into Cedar Point, Minnesota, claiming to be Police Chief Brian Enderly's sister, Wren. But how is that possible? Brian's mother died in an accident the day she revealed he was going to be a big brother. That was forty years before.
Life Visions, a religious sect run by the self-proclaimed messenger of God, Andrew Godley, has created a large community in the hills near the small town of Carson Springs, Wisconsin. Once a child is born into this cult-there is no other word for it-they are owned for life.
Go forth and multiply is the Life Visions commandment that makes Godley one of the wealthiest men in the country. The Hulls and the Dixons both belong to the church. Becca Hulls is one of nine children. Terah Dixon is an only child. The pair look so much alike, they could be twins. They even share the same birthday, but that is where the similarities end. Terah is gentle and kind, and Becca is anything but. Yet, they are rarely apart-until they escape Godley's clutches without landing in an unmarked grave.
Separated for two decades, Terah receives an unexpected invitation to join her one-time best friend in the small town of Cedar Point-a place for new beginnings. When strange people begin showing up in the small town, and the town faces one crisis after another, Terah can't shake the feeling Becca may be involved. And Becca can't understand how a simpleton like Terah can survive in a world where one must fight for the truth.
Yet even the truth is not pure. When held under a magnifying glass, one can see how the pieces have been reassembled into an alternate reality. This is especially true for Becca and Terah-since neither actually exists.
