Beginning from his birth, Wilbur recounts his bodily struggles, his foibles and successes through his early childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. He offers perspective on his different experiences, but is never really sure about the source of knowledge and strength he receives to understand and make sense of those experiences. As a young man, Wilbur has a personal epiphany that leads him to a close and personal relationship that helps him to understand his dysfunction.
