With a small part in a Broadway play and plans to start college, Charlotte thinks she knows what her future holds. But when she meets and falls for a charming, older, British-born actor, she shelves her plans and the trajectory of her life is changed forever in ways she could never have imagined. Played out against the years preceding, during and immediately following the Second World War, Charlotte's story takes us to locales as disparate as Newburgh (New York), McPherson (Kansas), Hollywood (California) and Pyote (Texas). In "The Queen of Kansas," Fels treats themes of love, friendship, loyalty, family and betrayal with the same combination of humor and heartbreak that served him well in his 2012 memoir, "Sometimes I See You."
