Throughout his work, Michel Foucault was concerned with the systems and mechanisms of power. With the transition out of what Foucault refers to as the Classical age into the modern age, we see a shift from sovereign power systems toward societal power systems. In this essay I will outline his thoughts on deductive and social power systems, highlighting how historical figures Jouy and Damiens fill roles within these power structures.
