Beskrivelse

[Black & White Edition, Softcover, white paper, matte pages] The U. S. postage stamp honoring America's Pharmacy profession was issued 50 years ago on November 10, 1972. It took nearly two generations of work to accomplish this feat, beginning in 1934. "Every calling, trade, art, profession, has a history. The influence of the past upon the present is in direct proportion to the wealth of tradition and of history that has been handed down through successive generations. Progress is frequently measured in terms of respect for those who have preceded us and who have left us landmarks to guide our way." This is part 1 [130 of 512 pages] of a reference work telling the story of the long road to a postage stamp honoring America's Pharmacists, "Partners In Health."

It indexes the artwork used to create a working model of the stamp, plus dies, rolls, proofs and plates, by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Part 2 [382 of 512 pages] is also available and collects as many of the First Day of Issue cacheted covers as possible together in one place.

(An effort taking decades!) It also outlines the cachet production process from sketched essays to final artwork through production of the printing plates. Both parts 1 and 2 are also available as a combined volume. This book does not show all of the dies and plate proofs nor all the variations in the archive.
