Devon lives a good life on his father's ranch in Texas. When he inherits the estate, his parents convince him to "settle down and find a wife." Eventually, he agrees and advertises for a Mail Order Bride.

Jocelyn grew up in an orphanage, and her life was full of hunger, cold, and loneliness. Still, she held onto her faith and looks to the future for relief. The orphanage expects the young ladies to become Mail Order Brides, so it is no surprise when they find her a match. Jocelyn heads West, full of hope and excitement.

She and her intended fall in love quickly, and his parents love her, too. But there's a problem-Devon's sister, Emma. She rarely speaks, and while the family is used to it, her hostile glares and silence make Jocelyn uneasy. Still, everything is going according to plan until cattle disappear... and Jocelyn is captured.
