"So, a bit of a surprise with the results and unfortunately not a nice one. I am afraid there were some cancerous cells in the results."
The words that can never be unsaid 'I am afraid there were..."
The 17th of September 2020, at the age of 53 years old, Steve is handed the diagnosis that he has throat cancer. In his own words up until this very moment, he had so much to look forward to; years of new adventures with his family, a 10-year-old son, a growing YouTube audience, a new business about to launch and a grand new greenhouse to build, but essentially, he'd been handed a potential death sentence!
This book chronicles his journey over the next year, through the tortuous path of cancer treatment and how he believes the medicinal properties of gardening, both psychological and physiological, and using that most important quality of a gardener, optimism, helped him through this painful time. His story is told with great candor and above all humour.
As a patient, this book will be a kindred companion on your own journey showing you some humour and light along the sometimes-tortuous path. If you are the person caring, then it will give you points where you can really help and support the patient. If you are neither then welcome to the ups and downs of a gardener's journey through throat cancer, the pain, the laughter and the beauty.
