The Old Squire

In 1794, the newly incorporated town of Bridgton, Maine stands at a crossroad. Will the young town in the verdant foothills of the White Mountains flourish? Or will it be swept away like a house in the path of a Saco River freshet? In the tumultuous years that followed incorporation, Bridgton's citizens faced wars, famine, tragedy, disease, and weather disasters. Still, their accomplishments during the next thirty years leave a lasting legacy still enjoyed by their modern day descendants. From churches to schools to roads to businesses to farms, Bridgton's landscape is forever shaped by the sacrifices and dreams of those who walked the paths before us. This is their story.
