Beskrivelse
The Mohave Desert is bounded by the Garlock Fault on the north and the San Andreas Fault on the south forming a wedge shaped dry basin containing remnants of former lake basins. Three basins have been preserved as state parks, and natural landmarks, namely Red Rock Canyon Recreational Area including Red Rock Canyon State Park north of Mohave, California; the Calico Basin associated with Rainbow Basin Natural Landmark, and the Owl Canyon which is considered part of the Rainbow Basin setting. The book provides geological field trip excursions into these three basins beginning with three parts: Part I presents the physiographic setting of the western Mohave Desert; Part II presents the Red Rock Canyon Recreational Area and state park; Part III presents the Barstow Beds, the Rainbow Basin, and the Owl Canayon.
