Beskrivelse
The Modern Filipino is an autobiographical account of the life of a first-generation immigrant from the Philippines. The second volume of the series contains 15 chapters of oral storytelling, majority of which are based on personal experiences with the remainder based on shared histories between relatives. Each composition follows a 10-stanza format with differing word limit restrictions (with six, seven, or eight words per line). This volume covers a diverse range of topics, from the experiences of citizens who live in the provinces to the realities of the country's urban landscapes. There are several chapters in this volume that provide a critique on the current internal affairs of the Philippines with the intent of informing and inspiring meaningful dialogue. The experiences outlined in this book are not meant to be generalizations of the modern Filipino identity but rather a version of this persona transformed by the process of immigration.
