Barging into the office of the police officer, Brian Wilkinson, the eccentric Mrs. Stinchcome declares her housemate to be missing, a strange lonesome character known only to her as 'the vicar'. Things are not at first what they appear to be, and Brian soon starts to question - did he ever exist at all?
